2face lead the way in encomiums for Ice Prince on his BET award

Nigerian music recorded another great feat on Sunday night as rapper Ice Prince claimed the award for the Best African Act 2013 at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards which held at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, USA.

In doing so, Ice Prince beat off competition from continental heavyweights including 2face Idibia, R2bees of Ghana, Weasel from Uganda, and Toya Delazy and Donald who are both from South Africa.

Leading the way in the encomiums list is 2baba who won the same award alongside D’banj in 2011. He expressed his happiness at a Nigerian artiste being deemed the best on the African continent once again in a global award ceremony.

He said: “Contemporary African music led by Nigeria is going places. It is a thing of joy to watch our artistes rub shoulders with the best of the rest of the world.

“Nigerian music has come a long way and where we are now is a result of the hard work we have put in over the years. Ice Prince has made us proud and shown the world once more that Nigerian music reigns in Africa and is gradually taking over the rest of the world.

“Congratulations to my brother for making Nigeria proud,” he said.

For Soul singer, Bez, Ice Prince has really been consistent in recent years and merits the award. “I’m very excited and happy for him,” he said.

Singer, Segun Obe reiterated the overriding opinion that Nigerian music is going places. “Nigerian music is going beyond our shores and this award further proves that fact.

“I say a hearty congratulations to Ice Prince and Nigerian music. Our musicians are here to stay and the Grammys is up next!”

Tee-Y Mix, was also impressed with the recognition of Nigerian music globally.“Nigerian music and musicians have finally come to stay globally. Congratulations to him,” he said.

Sammie Okposo said: “I’m really happy and excited about the fact that Ice Prince won the BET award.

“I am grateful to God that things like this are happening in my lifetime. We used to hear about other artistes from other countries winning these international awards but we are now participating and winning too.

“It’s a great achievement and well-deserved and I am happy for the Nigerian entertainment industry and Nigeria as a country.”

Veteran rapper, Ruggedman, was not left out of the congratulatory groove. “It’s a good thing not just for Ice Prince but for Nigerian and African music. Thankfully it is not our first and it will not be our last.

“Our music has not gotten there but these BET awards show that we are on the right path to global recognition,” he said.

Ice Prince fully announced himself on the Nigerian music scene when he won the 2010 edition of the Hennessy Artistry music competition alongside his producer, Jesse Jagz.

The Chocolate City rapper went on to release his debut single, “Oleku”, featuring Brymo and garnering fans far and wide. The video featured Nigeria’s representative in the on-going Big Brother Africa, Beverly.

His debut album, Everybody Loves Ice Prince (ELI), was released in 2011 to very great success.
